Touring Docents You love history, but are you sharing that love? Stop wondering and do something—become a docent at Dallas’s immersive history museum, Dallas Heritage Village. Our visitors want to learn more—and love the personal touch we can provide as they learn. We need people like you to give at least two 4-hour shifts a month, providing tours, answering questions, and sharing our mutual love of history. Training, ongoing learning opportunities, and a great network of fellow history lovers are just a few of the benefits to you. Help move the past forward!
Hands-On History Do you love the history at Dallas Heritage Village and want to volunteer but the thought of giving a house tour makes you nervous? No need to be nervous as there are many ways to share your passion for history with our visitors! One such way is to become a Hands-on History Volunteer. These volunteers help guide visitors through different activities that allow people to learn about the past in a fun way. These activities can include learning the old fashioned rules of horse shoes, building marshmallow skyscrapers, and handling artifacts. You don’t have to be an expert--learn alongside the visitors! As a volunteer, we ask for a commitment of at least one Saturday or Sunday each month for our Fall, Spring, and/or Summer season. Training, ongoing learning opportunities, and a great network of fellow history lovers are just a few of the benefits to you.

Brent gardening web Do you love strolling through our park-like grounds? Do you wonder why the weeds sometimes get out of control? Though the City of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department provides basic landscape care, we need your help in keeping the beds tidy. Village Garden Gnomes meet on a Saturday morning at least once a month to weed, prune and love our decorative gardens and agricultural display gardens. It’s a great chance to give back to this historic park and perhaps make a few new friends along the way.

Inside MillermoreHave you ever wondered how we keep 30 historic buildings clean? Grime Busters are just one part of the answer! This group meets monthly to tackle certain exhibit areas of Dallas Heritage Village. This is a rare chance to see our artifacts up close. Very few people (including staff) are allowed behind the plexiglass barriers, but as a Grime Buster, you would be part of the select few. Grime Busters should have some interest in history, physical ability to move artifacts, the ability to bend and kneel, and attention to detail. Training must be completed before you are allowed to join this group. The group meets once a month on a Monday morning and usually enjoys lunch together afterwards. Training, unique access, behind the scenes knowledge, and a great network of fellow history lovers are just a few of the benefits for you. Help move the past forward!

Curatorial VolunteerDo you love “old stuff?” Can you spend hours browsing at an antique store? Then volunteering in the Curatorial Department might be for you! Curatorial Volunteers help care for tens of thousands of artifacts at Dallas Heritage Village, both those on display and those that are in storage. Responsibilities include handling museum artifacts, database work, cataloging new artifacts, mystery solving, and being creative. Curatorial Volunteers should have some interest in the field; attention to detail, flexibility, great communication skills, and physical ability to move artifacts. Most importantly, Curatorial Volunteers must enjoy working with historic objects and love history. Curatorial volunteers are trained and scheduled by the Collections Manager and work either Monday or Tuesday. Training, unique access, behind the scenes knowledge, and a great network of fellow history lovers are just a few of the benefits for you. Help move the past forward!

Teen VolunteersTeen Volunteers are part of our Junior Historian program. We’re looking for teens aged 11 to 18 who have a love of history and volunteering. More information about this program may be found here.
