History Hunts are grade specific, TEKS-aligned scavenger hunts, designed to spark questions and conversations as you compare and contrast life then and now. Our field trips are self-guided and self-paced.
How much time should we allow at Dallas Heritage Village?
Most groups spend around three hours touring the Village, including time for lunch.
I really want a guided tour for my students. Can I schedule one of those?
With 20 historic structures, we’ve discovered it’s typically best for students to be self-guided and self-paced. There are historic characters located throughout the Village and some buildings will have volunteers giving tours. However, we offer two-hour docent-guided tours for groups of 40 students or fewer, Tuesday through Thursday. Click here to find out more.
Who are the people in costume?
As you tour the Village, you’ll meet staff in historic clothing. Their job is to interact with your students as a “voice from the past.
Where do we eat lunch?
Picnic tables and plenty of green space are available in Nancy’s Garden. Because we cannot guarantee your group a picnic table, please bring a blanket or tarp for your students to sit and eat their lunch. In case of inclement weather, we will make every effort to find an alternate eating location for your group. We do not have a place to store lunches.
The weather is supposed to be terrible the day of our field trip! What do I do?
As an outdoor museum, we understand visiting us during inclement weather may not be the best field trip experience. We are open rain or shine, but will be happy to reschedule your group for another day. Simply call the Programs Coordinator at 214-413-3674 to make arrangements to re-book your tour. If you choose to come, please make sure your students are dressed accordingly.

Do you have a Museum Store?
Our Museum Store is now located in the Ticket Office. Space is limited inside, so we may ask your group to wait outside until there’s room. We have items at many price levels. During busy days, we may have a satellite store available on Main Street. Online order form coming soon.
